About This Lesson
Hemiola Rhythm Studies help guitarists develop right hand finger balance, strength & equilibrium. Hemiola polyrhythms are one of the most essential counter-rhythms for guitarists to practice, develop and master, especially for concert repertoire, and should be practiced as daily studies along with Accentuation, Damping and Joint Action Studies. Together, this combination will provide a well-rounded program for finger parity. Fundamental hemiola rhythms are: 2-over-3, 3-over-2, 3-over-4, and 4-over-3. I have selected a set of hemiola exercises for you that, over time, will iron out any right finger inconsistencies and contradictions, especially relevant to arpeggios (they are very effective for scales as well). Hemiolas are simple (yet not at first so don’t give up). All advanced rhythm players (e.g. percussionists, drummers, pianists, etc.) practice hemiola rhythms and they are an essential daily study for any serious guitarist.
