About This Song
The Spanish Dance guitar sheet music: This is one of Tchaikovsky’s characteristic dances which highlight the second act of The Nutcracker (when Clara and the Prince arrive at the Kingdom of Sweets, ruled by the Sugar Plum Fairy). The Fairy and the people of the Kingdom perform several dances for Clara and the Prince, including a “Spanish Dance” that is sometimes called the “Chocolate” dance. This allegro brillante waltz is transcribed in D major for two guitars. Guitarists will enjoy performing this arrangement, and audiences will appreciate the work as the song had not been arranged for the guitar repertoire.
Mr. Pasero’s transcription is the first adaptation for the guitar repertoire. He began the transcription from the orchestral score in 1982 and completed the work in 1984, recording it in 1985. This is one of Stevan’s favorites, and he performed it in concert with other guitarists such as Tuck Andress and Fred Clarke.

About the composer:
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (7 May 1840 – 6 November 1893) was a Russian composer of the Romantic period. He was the first Russian composer whose music would make a lasting impression internationally. He wrote some of the most popular concert and theatrical music in the current classical repertoire, including the ballets Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, the 1812 Overture, his First Piano Concerto, Violin Concerto, the Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy, several symphonies, and the opera Eugene Onegin. Tchaikovsky’s melodies, stated with eloquence and matched by his inventive use of harmony and orchestration, have always ensured audience appeal. Like other late Romantic composers, Tchaikovsky relied heavily on orchestration for musical effects. Tchaikovsky, however, became noted for the “sensual opulence” and “voluptuous timbrel virtuosity” of his orchestration.
The Nutcracker Suite sheet music: March of the Wooden Soldiers, Dance of the Reed Flutes, Waltz of the Flowers, Russian Dance, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and more.
